The Hackley Hotel is set to become a beacon of luxury and history in Muskegon, Michigan, blending modern elegance with a deep reverence for the city’s storied past. Located in the historic Hackley School building, this boutique hotel celebrates the legacy of Charles Hackley, a visionary lumber baron and philanthropist whose contributions to education, public spaces, and civic institutions helped shape Muskegon’s vibrant identity. This 40-45 unit hotel, spanning 55,000 square feet and a full city block, reflects the client’s dedication to revitalizing this iconic landmark. By honoring Hackley’s enduring spirit of innovation and community, our firm’s role in the project offers guests a sophisticated retreat that connects them to Muskegon’s rich heritage while embracing its future.
To kickoff the project, KW participated in a two-day design charette with architect and client which led to the design of key elements that include a grand yet inviting arrival space to welcome guests in style, an outdoor event venue tailored for events and gatherings, an outdoor garden and spa area with formal gardens, a hot tub, cold plunge, and sauna, offering a tranquil retreat, and an outdoor terrace for the restaurant providing a picturesque setting for alfresco dining.
While a ground-breaking date remains unconfirmed, this ambitious project promises to leave a lasting impact on Muskegon’s landscape, honoring its rich history while paving the way for a vibrant future. It highlights our firm’s expertise in blending historical preservation with contemporary design, crafting spaces that inspire, connect, and tell meaningful stories.
